What is a woman made to be? Part 2

Woman thinking 1

Knowing God’s desire for us as women

Last week we looked at how God loves oneness. It stands to reason then, that the opposite is true of the enemy. When God speaks ‘oneness’, the enemy speaks ‘division’. There’s a deception that says “I am my own woman.”  Well that can never be true because God is the constant authority.  There is no place a woman or man can hide from God. There’s also a saying, “you know women” and this statement is supposed to justify or gloss over certain character flaws and behaviors women may display which really is simply ‘sin’ walking and talking.

The enemy has certain characteristics which he intends women to display and we know them because they are of the sin nature which we all have. However, the heart of a believer must be different from the heart of an unbeliever.  There’s a difference between ‘a woman’ and ‘a woman of God’ just as there is a difference between a ‘man’ and a ‘man of God’. God is able to take what was meant for evil and use it for good.  When he shows us the evil we can identify it and be like the good watchman who warns and protects others.

Ezekiel 33:2-6 When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, 3 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. NKJV

So let us together identify some of the characteristics of sin as seen in women generally. When we know God we fight these things so that we can use the qualities of a woman in a positive, Godly manner.

Worldly woman characteristics:
Talkative: Gossip, busy-body, stirs up quarrels and arguments.

Godly woman characteristics:
Prayerful/uses tongue wisely:  Speaks with wisdom, gives wise counsel, negotiates business deals and intercedes in prayer for others.

Prov 15:1-2;4.  1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
Prov 31:26 She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

Worldly woman characteristics:
Cunning: Manipulates others to do what she wants from a selfish perspective or motive.

Godly woman characteristics:
Wise and Harmless: Cannot be easily tricked or fooled but her motive is to protect and preserve others- particularly the people of God.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Phil 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Worldly woman characteristics:
Given to emotional ups and downs: This is often used by the enemy to distract a woman from functioning or thinking clearly and to make her fearful, anxious, unstable and double-minded.  In this state, she can run ahead without proper calculation or direction from God. She can become easily hurt or discouraged from a task or situation.  She may have ungodly sorrow, the sorrow that leads to hopelessness, depression or death.

Godly woman characteristics:
Controlled Emotion: She has emotion and is able to be empathetic and compassionate as God is- however, with God’s help, she is able to bring them under the authority of God or her husband to have direction as to what she should do- when, where, if this one or that one, this project or that project.  She is self-controlled, stable and able to bear up under pressures of life and continue with the peace of God.

2 Tim 1:2 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.

If you’ve been struggling with some of these character issues (and believe me we all do), admit to God that you don’t know how to truly be the woman He intends and then pray earnestly about it, constantly asking Him to express His nature through you so that you can be a blessing to those around you.

Check out the blog next week! We’ll look at some more character comparisons. God bless you all!
