3 Powerful P’s: perseverance, patience, prayer

1 Cor 9:7-9. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. Romans 5:3-5. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Caterpillars into Butterflies
Sand into Pearls
And coal into diamonds
Using time & pressure
He’s working on you too
Rick Warren

Metamorphosis (metamorphoo in Greek) means to transform i.e. COMPLETELY CHANGE.  If we compare a caterpillar to a butterfly, sand to pearls etc. there really IS no comparison. Can we all agree then that we should embrace pressure so that we can be transformed and that God is the author of change? Change comes with PRESSURE and we are all under pressure of some kind (financial, at work, in our marriage, our relationships, etc.). In those times, we can take heart, knowing that there is a solution.

James 1:2-4. Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

TRIALS test our faith and put us under PRESSURE but what does this PRESSURE produce? ..PERSEVERANCE!!! What must we do then? Ask God for wisdom, believe and not doubt.

James 5:7-11. Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door. Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Job’s faith was tested, he was put under A LOT of pressure, but he was patient and persevered.

James 5:13- 18. Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (Read 1 Kings 18).

2 Corinthians 4: 13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.

Luke 11: 9-10 So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Take encouragement from these scriptures! Remember that DREAM that seems dead because of the pressure you are under? 2 Cor 4:13 says that we are to call things that are dead to life. That Dream still lives because of the hope that is produced through the sufferings (PRESSURE). Do not lose heart when under pressure, know that Christ lives in you, the hope of glory. Instead, persist in prayer! Praise God, for who is He, the creator of the universe and that He died for us. Thank Him, for all that He has done, is doing and is still to do in our lives. Thank Him for the pressure and the process He is taking you through, making you into a beautiful pearl. Make your request known to Him: ask in faith, believe and speak it! Lift others up before him, your husband, your children, others that have asked you for prayer. Pray for RAIN, His rain of love in their lives, pray they come to know Him, pray that He speaks to them, pray that He have mercy on them, pray that He protect them. Amen!
