John 12:32 (NKJV)
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”
Jesus was lifted up on the cross, breaking the power of the prince of this world and casting him out. He is the way and no one can come to the Father except through Him. This is reality! Not some fictional story. Never in the history of this world has there ever been a savior, willing to be “lifted up” in such a disgraceful manner for the deliverance of the entire world.
When Nelson Mandela died, everyone took note and paid homage to this great man and His contribution. World leaders, celebrities and “regular” people alike all took the time to tweet #RIPMandela. Yet more and more we are observing a growing hatred and disdain for the name of Jesus.
These things we have been told to expect especially in these last days:
Matthew 10:21-22 (NKJV)
21 “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
Yet in the midst of all this growing persecution, we who call ourselves believers in Jesus have an occupation and a high call..and that is to continue to LIFT HIM UP! In every sphere of life we must be resolute and unswerving in our faith, enduring whatever crosses we must bear. We must continue to preach the gospel which is the power of God.
King James Version (KJV)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
But what if I’m not a preacher? What if I don’t have a “church” ministry?
Most of our time is actually spent out of the church building..in the home, workplaces, business places. The church, is not the physical building, it’s all of us “called out” ones who God then “sends” to into various sectors of life.
We have a responsibility to declare the truth and must ask God for boldness even as Paul the apostle did. In these parts of the world we are still able to enjoy the freedom to practice our faith, yet there are believers elsewhere being persecuted and put to death for their faith. The time will come and even is here when we too in our relative comfort, will be persecuted and put to death for our positions of truth on issues such as same sex marriage, corporal punishment, creation versus evolution and many other popular thoughts that seek to exalt themselves against the knowledge of Christ. We may lose jobs, friendships, family, have trouble getting financing for business or personal needs in times to come.
So let’s ask God for strength, endurance and boldness, to lift Jesus up..not being ashamed to put forward His teachings and character, unswervingly upholding biblical values in a world where men will hate us for doing just that. As we continue to lift him up on that cross..He has promised to draw all men unto Himself.
Eph 6: 10 (NKJV) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
