Live Up!

tomato-wisdomPhillipians 3: 14-16

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

I laughed when I saw the quote above. As a PhD student, there is a plethora of knowledge that I have gained.. and lost.. and regained during this process. However, the knowledge I have applied practically has stuck with me for a longer time than the things I merely read..and there have been many many things read.

How can we apply this to life? At some point or another, we come to a season in our lives where we have to ask ourselves some hard questions. Sometimes we are in such a whirlwind – busy with the status quo, fulfilling the obligations and expectations of our own selves and others, that God would ask us to pause, reflect and seek Him for clear direction, before we can move forward again.

In these times we may look at some decisions we’ve made and say things like, “If I had known what I know now, I may have done this differently.” Or, “I wish I knew that back then”.

Knowledge is: facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.

Wisdom is: the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

Both knowledge and wisdom are important and we’ve always heard “Knowledge is power!” However..whereas knowledge is facts and information, wisdom is action and application. That’s where true power is.  We can’t know everything, but our heavenly Father in His supreme wisdom has given us His Word, from which we can draw on His wisdom and counsel as we navigate through this maze of life. At every point as we seek His guidance, we can be assured that His still small voice, through the counsel of His Holy Spirit will say..”This is the way, walk in it”. When we apply this knowledge gained to our decisions and thought processes we can act with wisdom.

Yes, sometimes we may have to give it time..not just to hear His voice, but for our own confidence to grow as we believe His word and apply it in the decision making processes of life as our own human insecurities can cause us to doubt and wonder if we’ve heard correctly. However, today I want to encourage you as the Lord is encouraging me. As He gives you His word (the written and the prophetic) in a particular situation, to guide and give wisdom, live up to it. He doesn’t expect you to know the end from the beginning, or the exact details of how a particular decision you are faced with will pan out..all he asks you to do is to “Live Up!”. Live in the higher realm of what He has revealed to you through is words. “Live Up!” Live above the cloudiness that fogs your mind and your ability to make decisions confidently. “Live Up!” Apply His words and the knowledge He is giving you, to your thought life, your actions and the decisions you have to make. This is wisdom! Sometimes it’s a scary process but He will make the way clear..He only asks that you listen and act according to what He has revealed to you up to this point.

This is what He said to me today as I thought about what I should share with you all..”Believe and act according to what I have told you!”

God’s truth/knowledge revealed is a certainty that we can act on and apply in faith as He makes the way clear. Keep pressing on! Live up to what you know! Have a wonderful weekend and a faith-filled week ahead!

  1. Excellent article . Very insightful. The distinction between knowledge and wisdom is so on point. Too often we operate from our knowledge base and do more harm than good. May God fill us with His wisdom. Keep up the good work. Let’s continue to walk with wisdom this week and always.
